Join us on our mission toward more-sustainable food delivery packaging
The transition to more-sustainable food delivery packaging materials will require that we all work together. At Uber, we’re committed to helping businesses like yours shift to recyclable, compostable, and reusable packaging—with a goal of shifting to sustainable packaging by 2030 and zero emissions by 2040, globally.
Why does reducing packaging waste and emissions from deliveries matter?
Reducing packaging waste is a critical next step in our work to reduce Uber’s environmental impact—for our customers, our merchants, and the planet. We’re committed to providing you with access to discounts on more-sustainable packaging options, to help you:
Comply with local regulations
Improve the experience for your customers
Drive a more sustainable future for the Earth
Change takes time, but we’re optimistic that together we can make strides and see the impact of this change by 2025 in Asia Pacific and European cities, and by 2030 globally.
Suggestions for more-sustainable food delivery packaging options
You have the power to drive change by transitioning to more-sustainable food delivery packaging. Through our collaboration with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and Closed Loop Partners, we’re sharing best practices with you on how to reduce plastic packaging waste.
As you think about the packaging that’s best for your business, aim to prioritize the following materials:
- Reusable packaging
- Materials that were previously used and recycled (known as post-consumer recycled content)
- Responsibly sourced bioplastics (according to WWF’s Bioplastic Feedstock Alliance)
- Recyclable or certified compostable packaging
And as best you can, try to eliminate the use of single-use plastics, which cause environmental damage and are not widely recoverable for recycling. For information on the materials to avoid, refer to the US Plastics Pact list of problematic and unnecessary materials.
Access to suppliers of more-sustainable food delivery packaging
One way we’re helping you transition to packaging materials that are better for the environment than single-use plastics is by offering discounts with leading suppliers to the restaurant industry. You can order high-quality sustainable packaging from partners across the globe and take advantage of their discounted rates for existing Uber Eats merchant partners.
